Easter=New Beginnings=Purpose
A few years ago I set out to write a book about the common traits among my patients that seem to live the most fulfilling lives even by the time they reach the age of 80. We all have read so many books focused on self-help and to find the magic formula to life’s success. I interviewed a large group of my “happier” older patients to see if I could find the common link amongst them. I had the feeling; why not go to the source to see how they did it verses reinventing the wheel. I was amazed at the number of commonalities amongst that group, but the great divider, which truly separated them from most people I know, was the concept of purpose. They all were hanging onto a purpose, which would lead them from day to day. To this day, the elderly that I admire the most are those with a deep woven purpose. You see if you have a “reason” to live each day, then the doors of your life can really start to open. If you need to be here for that purpose, then doesn’t it make sense that you should take care of yourself in such a way that you would be here tomorrow to fulfill it?
Immediately we can see the importance of our voice to guide us through for our purpose. This starts backing us into the basics that we have to take care of ourselves to fulfill the purpose we have grasped on to. If we don’t take care of ourselves, then who will be here to fulfill the purpose we have chosen to fulfill our lives. Maybe this purpose is running a business, being political, volunteering, caring for grandchildren or an ill spouse, or any time, treasure, talent that we have to share to make the world a better place. No matter what your purpose is, it is done in the backdrop of pure love.
So, now the painful part, take your cloths off, step on a scale, look in a mirror, and be honest with what you see before you. Are you taking care of yourself in such a way that you can keep your purpose in life on a perpetual motion? Do you eat right, exercise, deal with stress, brush your teeth, floss, or find the correct amount of rest. How are you dealing with the physical plant that has been given to you? You see, your mind will only be as good as the body it is encased in…what does your honest voice tell you?
So look at today (Christian or Not) as a day of new beginnings, follow your heart, discover your purpose, and remember we only have what we have to give, for what was given to us on this day in an act of pure love.
